Finding Calm Through Creativity
with Katie White

Tampa-based watercolor artist Katie White offers an inspiring story of creativity, mindfulness, and the courage to follow your passion.

After studying illustration in college, Katie stepped away from creating art, only painting commissioned pieces in her twenties and thirties. It wasn’t until she returned to teaching at her children’s school that her love for art and creativity reignited. Watching children create freely without self-judgment inspired her to bring the same approach to her own art. After five years of teaching, she took the leap to become a full-time professional artist.

A turning point in both her art and well-being came when she discovered meditative painting. Facing burnout, her doctor suggested meditation, but traditional methods didn’t resonate. Combining watercolor with guided meditations, Katie found a calming practice that improved her health and became the foundation of her business. She now teaches this approach, engaging all five senses to create mindful, present-focused experiences.

Katie’s story is a reminder that creativity isn’t about perfection—it’s about process, joy, and connection. Her journey offers valuable inspiration for anyone looking to reconnect with their own creative spirit.

About Katie White

Katie White is a Tampa-based watercolor artist, educator, and founder of an intention-led creative business that blends art with mindful living. She received her BFA in Graphic Communications from Washington University in St. Louis, where she focused on Editorial Illustration. After raising two children and teaching elementary art, she transitioned into a full-time professional art career. For over eight years, she has built a practice that weaves together painting, storytelling, and soulful connection through artwork, workshops, retreats, and online classes. Her work has been exhibited in galleries across the Southeast and featured in national retailers including Serena & Lily, Pottery Barn, Ballard Designs, and Williams Sonoma Home.

Known for her gentle, encouraging teaching style, Katie leads adult watercolor workshops and women’s retreats where both beginners and experienced artists feel free to explore, play, and discover their own creative expression without pressure or perfectionism. She integrates meditation into her daily painting practice, creating tranquil pieces inspired by nature and often marked by her fascination with the horizon line, a visual reminder to stay grounded in today’s world. Collectors and students alike describe her work as comforting and grounding, pieces that bring a sense of peace and presence into everyday life.

Through her art and teaching, Katie’s mission is to help others slow down, breathe deeply, and connect with themselves by using watercolor as a mindfulness tool. When not in the studio, she enjoys traveling with her husband and two young adult sons, reading, and taking long walks with her dogs.
