Sean Segal’s musical journey began when someone put a guitar in his hands at age five. Later in his childhood, he built his own guitar—an early sign of the curiosity and creativity that would guide his work in music. Today, he’s a composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, scoring for film and television and collaborating with acclaimed filmmakers.

He studied jazz guitar at the University of Michigan, and that foundation continues to influence his approach to composing. Over the years, he has translated his instrumental training into creating scores that balance technical skill with imaginative storytelling, often exploring unique sounds and textures to bring each project to life.

In this episode, Sean reflects on his path from early musical discovery to film and TV scoring, sharing insights from his experiences working on a variety of projects. He discusses how experimentation, curiosity, and a hands-on approach have shaped the way he composes, highlighting the balance between learning from tradition and pushing creative boundaries.

Sean also offers practical advice for musicians looking to grow their skills. He emphasizes the importance of discipline, consistent practice, and staying curious, while also making space to enjoy the process and the joy of music-making.
